When Wilhelm Rüter planned his hotel over 40 years ago, he wanted to create a restaurant in the completely renovated former ‘Centralhotel’ that would appeal to all generations over the decades. For the founder of the Kaiserhof – a family man, trained butcher and gourmet to his fingertips – the location was to be spacious and elegant, warm in colour, rustic in materials, but bright and cosy. Regional food with a seasonal focus, which we now call local food, should take centre stage. The Brunnenhof was born from this idea.
The restaurant’s namesake is the fountain in the courtyard, which has been preserved to this day and in which fish swim their laps. As a visible sign of the pleasure that the Brunnenhof has always been about, Wilhelm Rüter left the kitchen open, with a clear view of the work at the pots and cookers. Watching the hustle and bustle today will whet your appetite for the freshly prepared classics and delicacies from the German-speaking cookery rooms, such as Wiener schnitzel, trout Müllerin, roast onion or grandma’s beef roulades, braised in Burgundy sauce with bean bundles and parsley potatoes – local food at it’s best!
In keeping with the familiar atmosphere of the place, a large selection of wines from predominantly German wine-growing regions is offered – including a good dozen selected red and white wines, as well as sparkling summer rosés by the glass. Seasonal specialities provide culinary highlights for private and business gatherings. These include moments of pleasure with fresh asparagus from the region, young matjes from Holland, fine mushrooms from chanterelles to truffles and porcini mushrooms, game from national stocks, as well as winter favourites such as goose, duck or delicious pork from the suckling pig.
Traditional and modern delicacies at a low price
Discover the lunch menu at Restaurant Brunnenhof. Mondays to Fridays between 12:00 and 15:00, we offer what is perhaps the best lunch in Hanover. In our bright, elegantly rustic premises, we serve traditional delicacies at a small price, as well as modern home food classics, regional favourites and culinary surprises of the day. In our open kitchen, we prepare everything on the spot and à la minute – also to take home or to the office. We only use market-fresh ingredients. With a selection of five to seven lunch dishes that change daily (three of which are for our guests in a hurry), homemade soups and salads, meat and fish fans as well as vegetarians will get their money’s worth.
Dinner in the Brunnenhof
Discover the elegant, evening side of the Brunnenhof with its new, sophisticated fine dining concept. Our Michelin-starred chef and his team invite you on a culinary journey of pleasure in three to four courses. Despite a down-to-earth focus, which is the common thread running through the weekly changing menu, there are no (national) limits to creativity. We can recommend corresponding wines for all dishes. The menu is also ideal for private or business dinners, birthdays, anniversaries, weddings or business get-togethers.
Our “Kirschzimmer” (cherry room) – The separate club room in the Brunnenhof restaurant
The separate club room in the Brunnenhof restaurant offers space for up to 25 people and can be hired exclusively. The small, cosy and rustic room is panelled with precious cherry wood coffers, giving it its characteristic warm red-brown tone. Whether birthday parties, anniversaries, private or business events or other festivities in a smaller circle – the Kirschzimmer is suitable for a variety of beautiful occasions.
